Handcrafting

Each wallcovering requires time for preparation and treatment before the designs can be applied. Canvases are primed through a process of stretching and hanging to prevent shrinkage and to prepare the surface. Once the canvas has undergone the preparation process, the Artist begins to apply the undercoats for the selected design. Meticulous layering techniques are used to incorporate the colour and texture within each design. A combination of fine brush strokes with careful placement and incorporation of mixed media further build texture and shape. Each layer requires times to dry and to settle before starting the next process. Canvasses are left to settle for a further period to allow for additional shrinkage.

Flower petals are dried and pressed. Baumodo has tested a variety of foliage for  suitability in inclusion for both canvass and glass designs. Many petals and leaves must be discarded due to their lack of durability and discolouration when combined with mixed media and when fused within the glass sealing process.

 Aga working

Butterflies are sourced from all over the world and arrive with their wings closed. They then have to be “relaxed” in a moisture container so as to spread their wings. All four wings are then carefully pinned and left to settle before they can be employed.
