Adrian Schel

Adrian Schel was born in The Hague, Netherlands  in 1944. During his early childhood he began drawing and painting for pleasure and to express things he finds difficult to communicate.

He taught science, (physics and chemics)  at high school. Later on during his career he re-qualified to teach drawing and painting, in order to bring his mind in a kind of balance.

In his work he visualizes his spirituality. Most of his inspiration comes from  the daily life and people around him. The various landscapes he saw on the many trips he made during his career, are  also a major subject in his work.

The paintings are always balancing on the edge of figuration and abstraction,  looking for the general cohesion behind the specialty of all. The intentional variation in subjects and used techniques  keeps him sharp and preserves him from monotomy.  He paints how and what he wants, he does not bow to commerciality.

Most of the time he is working with acrylic paint on canvas, but he also likes mixed media with gel, sand, paper and other mediums. Portraits, in particular of children are a speciality.

Although he is introvert in his work and not seeking publicity, more and more people know where to find him. He has exhibited extensively in The Netherlands.
